RE: Halogen filament low voltage questions???

I think the best solution will ultimately require replacing the oscillator circuit with one that's self-sustaining. A low-voltage oscillator also won't require such extreme step-down ratios, and the transformation will be more efficient.

Here's a circuit I threw together yesterday in SPICE. It creates a 2.5V RMS squarewave, and the frequency can be set to well above 100kHz. I don't mean for this exact configuration to be constructed and used, it's just an example to illustrate the direction I think this concept will need to go.
