Sounds like I will be doing a lot of trial and error hunting for the sweet spot. That's always fun anyway I guess.
On a side note, I built my bread boards (one for each channel) on rectangular plywood frames (12"x 24"x 4" roughly) with aluminum top plates and mounted a whole bunch of different type tube sockets, connection terminals and an 125 ese opt on each of them so it is easy to hook up almost any combination. I usually set up the the psu in between them. Oh, and lots and lots of clip leads!
