As we all know the consumer audio wire and cable industry is infested with fraud. One of the popular sales techniques is using cable from other industries such as NASA and other major aerospace companies.
After all, if it's used in the space shuttle it must be great audio cable? Right? WRONG!
One needs to look at how the cable is being used in a non audio applications and why. Perhaps there is a heat or chemical atmosphere issues the cable must withstand. Those properties may make the wire very expensive. But those attributes have nothing to do with how the cable will function as an audio interconnect. In fact the materials used to meet some exotic mechanical spec may actually be degrading to a sensitive electrical signal. In the intended application it may not matter or the mechanical attributes outweigh the electrical deficiencies.
Audio cable should still be selected by classic LCR parameters. And of course mechanical properties are also important. You may find some great low capacitance wire but if it's foil shield and solid wire, it's hardly acceptable for a stage microphone application no matter how good the electrical specs are.
