Grounding???

I have a Ah Tjoeb 99 tube output CD player. I put a 3 prong power cord receiver years ago to use various power cords I had. I was looking at it today and noticed the earth ground is not used. (3rd prong green in USA wire)

They used a marantz cd38 player which also showed two prong original power cord. My question is the case is metal and there is no plastic barriers how do they get away with a 2 prong power cord???

Also could it hurt anything if you attach the third prong/green earth wire to the metal case?
