I told my Boss that I would name my next project in his honor.
This ugly thing actually started life as a nice looking SE 6AR6 amp with nicely matched and painted xfmrs. It didn't sound very good, not bad but BOOOOOOORING. Next it was a SE 6L6. Nope, still not so goo.
Changed out a high impedance choke, not much better: and Changed the driver circuit 2X, a little better with 7B4.
Changed the output to 45; now it's starting to sound good, but still no cigar.
At last I changed out the output xfmr, a PP 6.6k Fischer with a cut and gapped core (and a nice metallic blue paint job). In went a Hammond 125.
Now the amp sounds really good, but looks wise, not so much........... It seems that I've rediscovered the DHT and good SE iron though.
"Unruly heap" is a good name for my friend, who took this gorgeous thing home to impress his wife. She'll love it.
