Hello inmate,
I have a B &K model 500 tube tester that has two pesky issues. I keep getting false short indicators even on brand new tubes. Every tube I have tested, even known good ones, indicates a short.
The second problem is that it wont read a 12ax7 at all, however the same socket is used for 12au7 and 12bh7 and those tubes give correct readings. This is really a bummer since it's a very popular tube..The manual makes no remark about whether this tube can be tested, and lists its settings on the spec sheet.
I have replaced all the caps, as someone indicated this solved the "short" issue for them. I actually thought I had it licked, but then after 4 tubes, the short indicator popped back on again and now all tubes read as shorted.
I also checked to make sure the correct bulbs were in place..Unit has what appears to be an original 83 rectifier tube, not sure if that could be the issue...
Any help or suggestions appreciated..
Jeff
