We have both Hickok and B&K testers. The Hickoks have more repect, but the B&Ks are easier to use. There is NO tube tester that does everything well (except maybe the $$$ Amplitrex).
The B&K 700, 707, and 747 I have experience with and like. The 700 and 707 do not test 12AX7s well.
Rebuilding and calibrating a tube tester isn't that hard, but it does take time to rebuild (sockets and LOTS of wires and cleaning).
My recommendation is to use the factory manual to calibrate, not a "bogey" tube. I wrote a piece on bogey tubes a few years ago that's still probably findable here.
Even if you don't calibrate (and calibration isn't that important and totally unnecessary for matching) DO replace the old electrolytic capacitors.
