Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

final update

I was able to use a round shank screw driver to open up some braided solder wick, and it made a pretty decent shield for the EF37A cap wire. It is touching the metal of the top plate of the 91A so it is grounded out as well.
Really pleased with the results, everything is much better now. The 26 pre is more quiet, and there is virtually no hum. The imaging improved quite a bit, and the sound in general is great.
One added benefit I hadn't counted on; I bought a pair of brimar 5a/157d tubes awhile back to use in the amp (high gain version of the ef37a) but thought they did not work when I first put them in because of the noise. Turns out the new shielding corrected that problem too.
Going to do some more tweaking for a bit and then I will start gathering parts for a final build. This one is definetly a keeper.
The russian 0.1 uf silver mica cap is showing great promise. It sounds great.
Thanks again for all the help folks!
