RE: 27 preamp

Did you charge the NiMH cells before installation? Expect 1.2 V. per cell.

The net load presented to the #27 is the parallel combination of the 22 Kohm part, the 470 Kohm part, and the I/P impedance of the power amp. The RP of a #27 is around 10 Kohms. The net load should be at least 3X RP and, obviously, you don't get that "tall".

To put things in perspective, the RP of a 12B4 is around 1000 Ω. That tube has no problem driving downstream stuff even as difficult as the IHF "standard" 10 Kohms.
