I love it when people offer advice without reading the entire OP's post.
The VT100 is pretty straight forward as long as you follow the
instructions. Read them over carefully and do a dry run with the amp off so that you are comfortable with the contact points, how your meter connects and where everything is.
Be careful with the amp on, as there are points of lethal voltages all over the circuit board.
I would also invest in a better meter (autoranging if you can swing it) and possibly probes like in the link below (as an example). This will be easier for you, relatively inexpensive and safer.
