I recall the same; I run mine (6B4G's) at about 20, no issues, surprisingly long life. But all of my tubes are dated 1999-2001 IIRC. Not sure about newer stock.

I did have one tube develop an I intermitant short soon after installation , but I don't think it was related to operating point
