Lots of stuff on the web on JBL Aquarius IV speakers. I would caution against simply taking a jigsaw to them and essentially destroying them. The LE8T-2 drivers will need the surrounds replaced and your skill at that will determine if they are junk or not.

The cool, high efficiency speakers have pleated paper surrounds, these do not. Just get a pair of old JBL drivers in good shape and build something or restore the Aquarius. No matter how JBL didn't get it right, your plan will not improve their design. Anyway, there is something cool about dispersion speakers. Jut my 2 cents
