RE: 5670 or 12ax7 phono

I can't comment authoritatively about 5670 based phono preamp designs.

From the data sheet, the 5670 looks pretty darned rugged. The amplification factor is approx. = to that of a 6922, but its gm is lower. With CCS loading, you rate to squeeze a net gain of about 40 dB. out.

Just for Ss&Gs, I've come up with a "reasonably" priced, vacuum rectified, B+ PSU, which yields the 300 or so VDC needed to go into regulation down to the 250 VDC the tweaked RCA setup needs. It's a case of already owning 117Z6 rectifiers and wanting to use them. Call me Mr. Voltage-Doubler. ;>D
