Regular PN diodes, such as the 1N914/1N4148 are neither constant voltage (as a Zener) nor linear (as a resistor). The voltage across the diode is approximately proportional to the logarithm of the current. Is that the bias voltage dependence on cathode current that you want? Also, the voltage across the diode depends on the diode temperature, so you don't want to mount them where they may be heated by the tubes.
