You already have a template (the metal top plate) and probably own an electric drill.

Home Depot sells 1/4" Walnut plywood with quite nice veneer in 24"x24" pieces at an attractive price.

The three hole saws required with their arbor will cost about $50.

The difference between one who works wood and one who professes a lack of woodworking skills isn't talent, it's desire.
