I progressed with experimenting on my RH84 type circuit.
Hooked up an LM317 CCS as per the ver. 2 schematic on the EL84 cathode.
Voltage checks seemed to indicate correct function.
It worked for about 20 minutes, then the right channel dropped out slowly.
Too late last night for any troubleshooting, but the LM317 was connected directly to the socket minus any heatsinking.
