Ok, I am going to shout this because I want everyone to hear it;THIS IS MY OPINION BASED ON WHAT I HEARD, YMMV.
I hooked up the FS-030's to the 845 se amp as Tre' suggested by configuring them for 4 ohms and connecting them to 8 ohm speakers, thereby getting a nominal 6 ohms primary. How much this compromises the design of the FS-030's from their intended performance I do not know; if someone really does, please chime in.
Did the FS-030's sound better? Silly question, of course they did. They are 6 or 7 times more expensive than the 125ese's. Did they sound way better? Not such a silly question. The biggest difference I heard was in the bass, it was definitely better, but that is not really a surprise either is it? As for the mids and the highs, that was not so easy.
I listened to several different types of music including acoustic blues, small jazz group and classical, and I tried several different flavors of caps, just as I had done with the Hammonds . To my ears the differences were subtle. I could pick up little differences here and there, but again, not way different to my ears.
I believe that what we are talking about here (except for the bass) is that last 5-10% of the recording. The more money you spend (in most cases) the more of that you will hear. Is it worth it? That is a question that only each individual can answer.
