RE: D.C. Filament transformer and choke size.

The best solution for a hum-free DHT, IMO, is the Rod Coleman filament regulator. He sells them in various sizes as kits, and they work perfectly to produce a hum-free, very musical DHT circuit. Do a search on DIYAudio for details; pm him over there to order or ask questions - great guy!

I've used them at low current (1A for a 26 preamp) and high current (10A for a 833C power amp), and they work beautifully in both cases. I had to parallel two of them for the 10A filament supply, and even that worked without a hitch. Highly recommended.
