Home Tube DIY Asylum

Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

Use paste only with Mica

Better yet consult the data sheet for the thermal pad you bought. Digikey is also a good source for data sheets for things they sell.

But most modern flexible thermal pads do not use thermal grease. In fact IIRC, it may actually degrade the thermal transfer properties.

TK is also quite correct about the grease when used. To little is better than too much.

P.S. a good source of free heatsinks and thermal pads is old CRT computer monitors. Especially the larger 19in screen units. Lots of HV caps too if you trust them. At least the mylars should be OK.
