testing a 6L6GC in my EICO HF87?

Is it ok to use my HF87 (cathode biased PP EL34) to test some RCA 6l6gc. I know that the set up is not ideal but I am just concerned about sorting the tubes out according to their current usage in the amp. I will probably use a variac to set a plate voltage of around 400vdc. My 87 has 4 matched individual bias resistors. thank you for your input, cheers, Dak
