Parallel the capacitor. Use a mylar cap, because it is a low-quality material and has some ESR at high (recovery spike) frequencies. If you must use a high quality cap, put a resistor in series with it, preferably a quality carbon composition - you need resistance not inductance. The snubber must dissipate energy, not just re-direct it, so it must have some resistance.
