Great post Michael,
I love seeing stuff like that. My almost 40 years as a marine pipefitter aboard U.S. naval vessel afforded me the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the radar equipment on some of the ships.
On several occasions I was assigned as lead mechanic on implementing as ship-alt to up grade the chilled water to the TUBES that powered the ships wide range radar.
The tubes here HUGE and were cooled with chilled water. The radar was 2gigawatts. The tubes had their own dedicated substation and their own EDG. They didn't "look" like tubes though. They were metal and were behind three layers of screening/shielding.
I don't need that much for my ham rig but I'd like to have a legal-limit amp with a quad of 4-400s. Ah yas, but there's this little thing called "finanaces"!!!
