an excellent question, as I have been having some problems...

with the 9 pin input sockets (for 6DJ8) in my Cary SLI-80. Some of the 6DJ8's were sounding microphonic or making a slight high freq. oscillation noise, thought the tubes were bad. When I placed those tubes in my Onix SP3, which has 9 pin sockets that really grip good (as well as tube shields), those same tubes (and all other 6DJ8 tubes I have tested) worked perfectly with NO noise of any kind, make me wonder about all the knocks against the 6DJ8 as a noisy tube when it may very well may be the socket they are in...
