While the article may (arguably) be useful as a description as to how to use PSUD, it is horribly flawed in its conclusions. For once, I actually agree with Dr Low Mu. The author spent a lot of time and effort "fixing" the wrong (or a non existent) problem! Adding 700 Ohms of DCR to the transformer windings may reduce the start up "ringing", but that is NOT what's important. Clearly (you don't even need a simulator to figure this out), it's exactly the wrong thing to do if your goal is an output voltage that's stable under varying load (such as a SE output tube). If your goal is to eliminate the current spikes in the first cap, the solution is simple - use a LCLC filter, not a CLC filter. That's the advantage of a properly design (first L meets the critical inductance criteria) LCLC filter - the current in the inductors never goes to zero.
