RE: All sounds, from the screech of nails on a blackboard to a symphony orchestra, are made up of sine waves.

Maybe I should have said "All sounds, from the screech of nails on a blackboard to a symphony orchestra, are made up of multiple waves that resemble sine waves".

Is there a problem with Fourier?

"Any waveform can be analyzed as a combination of sine waves of various amplitude, frequency and phase."
