The "mathematical trickery" seems like magic until you understand it. If you are like me and prefer to avoid depending on magic there is some serious homework involved. First there is some mathematics that one has to learn, how much depends on where you start. You should be able to read and understand the linked reference, which due to its length alone will take some time. It is likely that portions will be incomprehensible, so there might be a need to crack a text book. Or even two, if you find the first textbook itself incomprehensible. Second, there is one thing more that you will need to understand, and this is more a matter of engineering than anything else. You will need to have a clear understanding of the difference between "function" and "mechanism".

Ordinarily when I read a marketing white paper, I expect (based on experience) to see nothing but pseudo-technical BS. Dustin's white paper on the SABRE chips is one of the few cases where my BS alert was silent, and it was quite obvious that these were going to be exceptional chips if the quality of the manufacturing process measured up to the quality of the engineering. If you want more background on how these chips work you can also read the related patents.

There is one remaining question, I suppose: "Why would anyone want a 32 bit DAC?" The potential 192 dB of dynamic range is more than sufficient to cover at the low end inaudible sounds and at the high end events of military significance. Clearly engineering overkill! The answer, however becomes clear if one looks a little deeper. The DAC chip itself is approaching the limits of 24 bits, and hence there can be a demonstrable increment in performance by having additional input resolution. Considering that there is essentially zero extra cost in providing the extra 8 bits on the input side, this becomes an engineering no-brainer. Sure the benefit is small, but so is the cost. (But note, I am talking about cost, not necessarily price. :-) )
