Hi.
If two stages can do it, why want more stages?
If one stage can still do it, why not try it out see how it sounds?
This exactly my new project is all about: one-stage triode MM cartridge RIAA phonostage (no NFB) with pretty high HV (440V).
I don't know how good or bad it would sound. But let me build it & find out.

PS: if it was some NFB distortion cancellation topology you are using, I won't hold my breath on it as analogue NFBs easily fall short in realtime music transfer vs its static measurement.
