Hi Dan,
And to add even further, but seldom discussed, the BEST audio engineers, technicians, etc, will ALSO have a very good understanding of what live unamplified music sounds like, and they should hear it regularly, and preferably be a musician themselves. Then, we can get somewhere.
My original audio mentor, Mr. Fulton, was all of that. Few in the audio field are. The guy who designed my RIAA preamp (with Fulton) was certainly both, and the fellow who brilliantly updated my unit this year, is both. ( Messers Tuttle and Moore).
This is seldom said or recognized by the masses.
