I agree totally with your description of how the circuit operates with the choke. The choke allows the bottom triode to operate in unloaded, full-mu mode, nice flat load line, and the top triode acts as an ideal cathode follower. The combination is linear and has low Zo.
However, I think that even if it's just semantics, what we just described is closer to the operation of an ideal mu-follower and less like SRPP. It doesn't work in push-pull, and you can verify this by measuring the current source vs current sink capability. Where is the current sink path?
