Yes, less delivers more. I've proven it again, two years back.
As an experiment to test the value of the low low O/P power amp, I built a 2-stage 2x1W power amp. No NFB, no adjustment. Leak grid bias for the driver stage !!!!
Believe or not, sonically it blows away a costly brandname 2x100W dual-mono SS power amp (MOS-Fet powerstage), as well as a 2x6SN7 longtail driving 6V6GT PP power amp, custom built heavy-duty like a battleship by a tube guru. Driven directly by a audiophile grade CD transport/DAC, driving a pair of costly brandname 91-dB/W reference monitor.
This little David giant-amp killer performs beautifully at 'polite' SPL levels with polite type music. Even with the '2001 A Space Odyessy' movie overture soundtrack, its bass notes come out so much more details
with the 2x1W amp.
