I wrote a letter to the editor which was published in a later issue. It was still complicated though. Since then I have simplified the calculation. It's a little conservative but for triodes the impedance at the cathode is approximately the inverse of the tube's transconductance (gm on the data sheets). This give
C = gm/(2*pi*f)
I usually use 5Hz as a frequency safely below anything musically important, so the rule of thumb is
C = gm/30
