This preamp started out as an experiment for an economy transformer coupled preamp, so we used a pair of the Hammond 124B nickel cores, so that's why it has such a high impedance. Despite the economy of the preamp, it's the best sounding preamp we have tried, better than some really high grade output transformer designs. Not too shabby for $300.00 in parts, especially considering we have about $125.00 tied up in the attenuators.
BTW I agree that bypassing is a bad idea, I try and avoid it, but in this case it worked out pretty well. Can you tell me what kind of better quality 2uf capacitor we could try as the parafeed cap, what would you choose?
