"There is no comparison between a triode strapped pentode (or beam power tube) and a true DHT. The DHT is much more linear."This isn't an entirely fair comparison. Apples to oranges, really. First, the 300B has half the triode gain and requires twice as much voltage drive compared to the 6L6, so the results in practice will be highly dependent on the driver stage. Second, it is unfair to compare a triode with such different characteristics -- DHTs with gain and plate resistance comparable to a 6L6 will be less-linear than a 300B, too.
Just because a 6L6 in triode isn't as linear as a 300B doesn't mean that a 6L6 can't perform well as a beam power tube. Run the 6L6GC as a pentode with a bit of cathode feedback to bring damping to triode levels, and it can outperform the 300B with a bit of headroom as bonus. It's one of the best-performing beam power tubes, just as the 300B is one of the best-performing DHTs. Used correctly, either can put up a great fight.
