Test gears I should be looking to purchase..?

I feel I am at the point where I need to dedicate one of my rooms as The Bench for me to stay happy, my kitchen table is not cutting it as projects get larger & larger. So what test gears should I be looking for to purchase. I mainly rely on a $100.00 "Ideal" Multimeter that I got from Home Depot. I see surplus test gears is extremely resonable as most big players entered the digital & computer based stuff, I prefer solid well built with reliablilty in mind. So any help on test gear to look for at auction etc would greatly be appreciated.
