Top caps are actually soldered onto a piece of wire that sticks out the top of the tube. That nasty looking silver bubble top on the cap is actually solder flowed into a dish. You can reahead it with your iron and tack down a wire, or you can PM me and I can mail you 20 1/4" standard brand new replacement top caps and you can replace the odd size.
