These folks are seriously spoiled. With a good eye (trained in what you are seeing) and some creativity you can diagnose most any audio condition with a 1 mHz single trace 'scope - or I can and I've been messing with this stuff since I was a teenager which puts me at close to 40 years as a electronics hobbyist and professional. Of course you want to make sure that you got a fast leading edge with a square wave input which is mostly a function of a correctly compensated probe.

The 'scopes you describe - if brought to spec and calibrated - are easily adequate. And probably "good enough" for your purposes as is as long as the filter caps are in good shape (yes, they need to be replaced on SS equipment - especially '70s vintage).
