I prefer the sonics of a gapped inductor. For grid chokes, the gap can be very small to contribute well. Same goes for PP outputs, though it requires design consideration to account for the lowered permeability. I don't buy the 'increased magnetizing current is bad' arguement...not since hearing it anyway...:)
