"sound past" refers to the magic of hearing a truly great sound system for the first time. It has nothing to do with any "past sound."

I don't listen to vinyl very often. I don't have the time to really listen to music. Sometimes I just listen to a single track on an LP. It's all it takes to floor me. The dynamics, bass, detail and that uncanny velvet-like blackness make me marvel like a little kid. I think that's what Sakuma alludes to.
