Clarification.
I have never seen or heard the Marantz CD-7. But I have heard of it. And from what I gather, it's a rather pricey CD player with a solid reputation.
For some reason, Marantz put two 220uF electrolytics (on reversed to make it non-polar) on the output! Even film caps of 220uF would have been ridiculous. If a design needs that high value, it needs to be re-designed. (This stuff you see in mp3 players and plasma screens that use single-rail SMPS, and is perfectly acceptable in those devices.)
The CD-7 may be high-price, but it is not high-end by my definition. But that's not my point. The point is that the CD-7 a great sounding DC player (judging from reports) despite the electrolytics. So to some people, electrolytic, film cap or transformer seems pretty irrelevant.
