It'd be financially inefficient to run 845's so lightly. You could go with push-pull 300B's and get the same power. If you're in a fairly well populated area, you might investigate whether or not the character of sound you're looking for is inherant to a directly heated tube or a single ended amplifier by auditioning some gear (single ended EL34 amp and push-pull 300B). If you really can live with push-pull, Russian 6B4G's (6.3v octal 2A3's) are about $20 a piece, and it could be pretty fun to build a push-pull amp with six or eight of those per channel!
