Based on your comments here you apparently you didn't read carefully what I wrote so let me reiterate explicitly: The QUAD electronics were in use in the Pure Audio exhibit because they sounded best during setup and fine tuning. They were in use NOT because "quad was paying for the room,the dealer had to comply." as you stated. Just best sound in that room, nothing more, nothing less. The ASLs were in top shape, it was just one of those "synergy" things. Note too that this was the Pure Audio exhibit and not the QUAD exhibit. Pure Audio carries other brands besides QUAD and was free to show them.
As for the Van Alstine/Salk exhibit, maybe YOU should go back to the room and listen again. It was a different sound than the QUADs but certainly not "absolutely nauseating". Actually, I found none of the exhibits had nauseating sound although my dislike of single-driver, full range speakers and vintage Klipsch wasn't changed. Guess different people hear things differently. I do find it curious that we can agree on the QUAD stuff but not on the Van Alstine. Such is life.
