Heat from the KW-55 is normal for tube amps/receivers. I would look at the four tall tubes at the rear of receiver and make sure the tubes do not glow red or orange inside. At the top of tubes and somewhat at the bottom, a yellow glow in the center of the tubes are normal. That is called the filament. It is the side of the tubes inside that must not glow red or orange.
Xtal, Mag & Tape HD is an input from a record player (Xtal or Mag) and Tape HD is a tape recorder. The front switch allows to select those seperate items.
The KW-55 is somewhat rare. I do not find many on ebay for sale. $80 is a good deal when in good condition & no funds needed for postage.
