9th day impression of Kenwood KW-55 receiver upgrade

205.188.116.141

Today I replaced the the 12AX7s original cathode capacitors with new Panasonic FM types plus increased capacitance from 25uF to 47uF. The change in sonics was immediatly apparent without any capacitor break-in time. The sound was improved regarding more details and overall clarity. I believe other parts from the first go-thru have about 50 hours use.

If I was do try these modifications over again, I would likely choose the higher power Kenwood 1100 or simular series with the larger output transformers and 7591 tubes for superior bass response. However, this KW-55 is not shy on bass and the EL84/6BQ5/7189 are highly respected power output tubes.

I will report back after 300-400 hours capacitor break-in time for final impressions.
