I should have checked Emotive first. In a preamp, voltages are much lower, of course, about 300 volts being the tops.

Again, I would invert the chassis with the rectifier tube in and check the DC voltage at pin 8, the cathode of the rectifier. Both tubes used in your preamp can handle up to at least 300 volts DC, but I would hazard a guess that voltages of about 150+ at the signal tubes may not be unlikely. The voltages at the rctifier should probably be in the 300+ DC range. If that's the case, I wouldn't worry much about which rectifier you use.
