Hi Dennis,

When you say:

"If ever I could, I would NEVER use a capacitor for ANYTHING. As it is, I have minimized its contribution as much as is possible with household A.C. power lines."

I want to make sure I understand the concept. Are you saying that the household AC power line DOES have the ability to supply the required currents, so the less energy stored in the power supply the better? Does it mean that the LSES power supply is designed to function as a "power-pass-through" device with a minimum of storage in the path (which would slow down the current delivery)?

I am experimenting with the LSES design now, but I have a variac in it's input. I find that the variac saturates and buzzes so I guess I need to find a tapped transformer...

But something else worries me even more: I generate my own power off-grid with batteries and solid state inverters. I'm 2 miles from power lines so I don't have the household power. Also, my inverters generate a small amount of switching noise which I filter out using a massive 30 amp choke with .1ohm DCR. The "DCR" of the inverters is almost zero, i.e. from zero load to the full 46 amp load, the line voltage doesn't change. But of course the inverter regulation circuit will take time (milliseconds) to respond to load changes. It can only regulate cycle-by-cycle at best. I have found that a SOLA CVT removes all of the switching noise also, but I caught a comment of yours that you think I may need a 10KW size unit for good sound. Maybe I should look for an old motor-generator style synchronous converter?

What do you recommend? Do I have to move back to town where the noise is so deafening it makes no sense to have a hifi set in the first place ;-)?

Looking forward to VSAC!

Cheers,

Michael
