If the unit has true transformers then each winding either input or output has two leads. There are two signals, one with each lead. They are 180 degrees out of phase with each other. Generally, sometimes, not always the 0 phase lead is marked on the schematic with a dot. Choose one of the leads and ground the other and you have converted balanced operation (XLR) to unbalanced (RCA phono).
