I agree with you 100,000,000,000 percent. Lets see, resistors short, capacitors dry up, soldering traces open, belts stretch, and control pots oxidize. Did I forget anything? If you salvage one from a nice ebay grandmother type from an estate sale that got used once and then put back in the box for the last 20-35 years you can bet this thing is a basket case, and if you ain't got twice the $$$$.$$ that you originaly paid for the NAKAMICHI then by golly say hello to MR. CRAP-A-MICHI. These deck live and die depending on 2 things. Usage and maintenance. Putting them in storage is akin to throwing the deck into a vat of salt water. These puppies like to be played and played often! Doing so keeps the machine from feeling the effects of atrophy. What you don't use you loose applies here....You have been warned
