Hi.

Turning the bias knob to the lesser bias level on chrome position is not like recording with 'normal' position. The bias levels differ too much between different types. The bias knob makes small differences. You can use a multimeter to see it on the head while recording. In my Nak 480 the ac voltage drop accross head pins is less than 100 Volts for normal type, 140 V for Chrome and up to 200 Volts approx on metal.

bias knob does not change that too much.

Recording chrome tapes with 'normal' position probably will introduce also a lot of distortion on the recordings, and yes, crisp highs.

Using a record EQ you can soften the highs and unequalize the recording to a plane line, but it won't avoid the distortion.
