Type II tape has a different particle density and different magnetic particles than Type I tape. This difference requires a higher rec bias current. A simple experiment. Record a section of music on a Type II tape with Type I bias. Record the same section again with a Type I tape with Type I bias and the same EQ. It also works backwards, you can't rec Type I tape with Type II bias. It's all about the physics and electromagnetic principles.
