Tape Trail

Always add a generous amount of leader tape to the beginning of all your Reels.

Early acetate tape can be hard and brittle, besides adding leader tape, do not fast forward or rewind and you will be fine.

I have never had a tape break (after the first play) as I first apply leader tape and I never fast forward or rewind a 4 Track Reel to Reel tape, this way the tape always has an even pack. If there is a lot of blank tape on either side, I just put on an LP or cassette while waiting for the tape to play out. I intend to make my Reel to Reels last the rest of my life.

On audiophile Reel to Reels that are recorded only on one side I store them tails out and rewind completely before play without stopping. Then I play them, which gives them an even pack for storage.

Be kind to your reels and they will be kind to you!
